Adelaide Hills Woodworkers
The newest Special Interest Group was conceived last year by
members of Murrayland Turners who reside in the hills, and born over a
pub lunch on January 15th 2006. We aim to encourage men and women
of all ages to pursue excellence in any field of woodwork, although
currently most of our members are turners.
At our first meeting, at a members home, we welcomed Woodgroup SA's
then President, Ron Allen, who presented a generous cheque to kickstart
our fledgeling finances. Mimber Michael Kowald spoke of his
professional experiences in milling and drying timber, and as at every
meeting, we had a Show & Tell session, where members not only showcase
their work, but discuss problems, tips and any matters of general
interest to "woodies".
Subsequent meetings have seen demonstrations of the use and
sharpening of tools, spindle turning, long hole boring, pyrography,
texturing and drying and general wood turning techniques.
Show & Tell has yielded exhibits of antique tools and those used in
other cultures, and a Windsor chair made entirely by hand tools and a
pole lathe, in addition to a magnificent array of turned articles.
Meetings are held on the third Sunday of each month, from 1pm to 5pm, in the Tech Studies
Workshops at Oakbank Area School. For more information, contact the Coordinator,
Ed Horton,
whose details can be obtained by emailing the
Webmaster.
