Northern Turners
Northern Turners usually has 35 members in attendance, with 16 benches and 8 lathes available for use, and limited use of 2 bandsaws and other power equipment.
As much as possible, our meetins are practical in nature, iwth members encouraged to bring their tools and do some turning. The club plans and implements a yearly programme whereby each meeting has a demonstration of some aspect of turning by one of our more experienced members or by invited guests.
We hold an internal woodturning competition each year, which runs over 5 staggered months and has a cumulative scoring system with annual winners in three grades. This competition is completely voluntary and about 15 members take part. We also have a show and tell session each month where all members are encouraged to show and talk about ther work. These two aspects lead into encouraging members to display their work at craft shows and exhibitions.
We have three small portable lathes, which we take to several public demonstrations each year. The group actively supports the Woodgroup at the Adelaide Timber & Working With Wood Show and the Salisbury Craft & Hobby Fair.
Meetings are held on the fourth Saturday of each month, From 10:00am to 3:00pm at the Technology Studies Workshop of the Golden Grove Secondary Education Complex. For more information, contact the coordinator, Ron Allen, whose details can be obtained by emailing the Webmaster.
How to get there: Travel along The Golden Way at Golden Grove until you reach the traffic lights alongside the Golden Grove Recreation Centre (opposite KFC and Hungry Jacks by the Golden Grove Shopping Village). Turn down the road by the Recreation Centre and Workshops are at the bottom of the hill (about 100 metres).
