In 1988 a small group of Woodgroup SA members donated hand made wooden toys to the Salvation Army Christmas Appeal. This was the beginning of the group now known as TOYMENDOUS INC.
To participate in the Toymendous workshops, it is necessary to become a financial member of the Club - a membership that entitles you to participate in all the activities of other Clubs associated with Woodgroup SA Inc our state body.
The only other requirement to enjoy the experience of making wooden toys is a basic knowledge and interest in working with wood. We make a range of toys for girls and boys selected from over 40 designs. We also make a number of stand up jigsaw puzzles for the small young hands to assemble.
The annual average production of 800 wooden toys and 300 jigsaws are donated to nominated charities at Christmas time for inclusion in their Christmas hampers.
The group meets on a number of occasions each month in the Woodwork Centre of the Thebarton Senior College, where we have use of the workshop machinery and hand tools. The group also have a number of special power tools and machines purchased with funds received in grants. Tuition in the use of these special machines is provided, to help you enjoy the experience of making wooden toys to a very high standard.
All workshops are run in a friendly social atmosphere, with morning tea provided.
Workshops are held on the 2nd Saturday of each month, from 9:30am to 4pm, and every Tuesday at the same times (December excepted). For further information, contact the President, Ron Shaw or Secretary Ray Bradley, whose details can be obtained from the Webmaster.
