Western Woodworkers

Western Woodies caters for woodworkers of all specialties.  Its members include experts in marquetry, jigs & gadgets, cabinet & furniture making, turning and tool sharpening.   The focus is on improving and sharing skills from all areas of woodworking in an effort to expand the knowledge and expertise of the group as a whole as well as that of individual members.  A friendly, helpful atmosphere makes Western Woodies meetings highly entertaining and productive Saturdays.

Projects undertaken by the group include making indoor bowling sets and checkers sets for aged care homes, and optional challenges are set most months to test and develop skills in varying fields.  Challenges have included wooden sculptures, “pairs”, and lidded boxes from three timbers.

Guests are often invited to speak and demonstrate to the group, on subjects such as exhibiting work, bandsawn boxes, toy making and lace bobbin making.

Visitors and new members from all fields of woodworking are welcome, from beginners to advanced craftspeople.

Meetings are held on the fourth Saturday of each month (except December), from 9am to 4pm, in the Tech Studies building at Thebarton Senior College.  For more information, contact the Coordinator, Rena Hoare, whose details can be obtained by emailing the Webmaster.
