Whyalla Woodies

One of the woodworking clubs, in country regions, is Whyalla Woodies Inc which informally commenced back in the late 1990’s and formalized its group in July 2003.

All aspects of wood working are covered, including turning, furniture making, scroll saw work, carving, routing and toy making.

During the year the group do many demonstrations at Tanderra Craft Village, and also within the city, such as at the Whyalla Horticultural Show.  Many members travel within the state to attend workshops held by various professional craftsmen.  Internal workshops are held throughout the year on all aspects of woodwork with ongoing support and advice on general woodwork.

Our workshops currently have machinery including four lathes, bandsaw, small bandsaw, pedestal drill, grinders, tablesaw, belt sanders, table router with a recent 2HP dust extractor, thicknesser and numerous hand tools and work benches, and adding all the time.

At present, we have 25 members, including juniors, for whom we hold a separate session on Wednesday Nights.  We welcome anyone new, as we cater for all age groups, from 12 years old to 90+.  Help is available in all areas of woodwork, from tool grinding to the development of ideas and project construction.

Meetings are held each Tuesday (and Wednesday for Juniors) from 7:00pm to 10:00pm and the last weekend of each month, from 10am to 4pm both days, in the Tanderra Craft Village, 100 meters before the ship as you enter Whyalla.  For more information, contact the President Robyn Sandy or Secretary Keith Taylor, whose details can be obtained by emailing the Webmaster.
